How to Pack Car Snacks For a Successful Road Trip?

Summer has finally arrived and I trust everyone in Auckland now can feel the heat. As Christmas/New Year Holidays are fast approaching, most people would agree that it’s now the perfect time to drive our kids out and about. Over the past years, I’ve created a list of car snacks for my two young children (4.5yo & 1.5yo). And I would like to share the list with you today so that you can make your next road trip more fun and successful.

Snack Idea For Successful Road Trip

  • Do Bring Snacks! For young kids, seat belts are linked with hunger. No matter if they've been fed or not, some kids will start complaining about starvation minutes after the engine starts, so I see it’s a must to have snacks in the car for a sane driving.

    • Do Bring A Variety of Snacks! Kids can easily get bored with the same snacks over and over again. So having a variety of choices is the key to delight them on every road trip. PS: my kids love Dorito chips and M&Ms :)

      • Do Position The Snacks Smartly! Kids are smart these days, so position your snacks at a strategic place to prevent unwanted consumption but still being able to access when needed. If you are bringing your dogs, then having a container lid/cover is quite useful. Personally, I prefer using car organisers to store my snacks both in the boot or behind the seats.

      • Mini-sized snacks are better than large-sized ones. The reason being is quite obvious - Small bags are more convenient to carry around plus require less room to store. Also, we hate things go to waste so small-sized snacks work perfectly for our family.

        • Consider long shelf-life snacks - We prefer long-shelf life snacks as they can 'live' in the car for a long time. For fresh fruit or hot food, we usually buy them from the shops after we've arrived our destination. Also, we try to select those snacks that don’t get easily melted.

Trust me, having good and plentiful snacks will go a long way towards keeping your kids happy. So do give yourself some time beforehand to prepare the snacks for your next car trip. But if you do want to ‘cheat’ on this, then getting a Horobox is a good option to consider - let our snack experts prepare the car snacks according to your preferences and save you time and hassle.
